Currently Active Projects — January 2025 Edition
- The Morsulus Toolchain and O&A Website are both going to get significant updates from Mathghamhain this year as he takes on the Morsulus office.
- The College Website‘s article indexes and educational content may get further updates from Clarion and volunteers they recruit.
- The College is working to set up a YouTube channel.
- OSCAR‘s codebase is undergoing continuous refinement; see the OSCAR home page for a list of additions and improvements made every few weeks.
- There’s a long-term project to make the scanned archive of emblazons available online.
- The Precedent Tagging Project intends to facilitate searching the LoARs for important decisions
Future Projects
- A Ceremonies and Scrolls Archive project is still getting underway.
- There’s room for folks to build useful resources for non-College heraldic resources, including making it easier to find community-created blog posts, shared CMS tools that allow multiple heralds to cooperate in maintaining a resource, and more-accessible archives of existing resource.
- Someday it would be nice to have a next-generation LoAR search engine with integrated emblazons.
Stalled and Failed Projects
In recent years, there have been a number of official College of Arms development projects that petered out without ever being completed or launching. I list these here in hopes that anyone considering a future development project may learn from these experiences.
- FELIX (2007–2008?) was intended to be a CMS system for publishing articles on the College’s website.
- OSCAR 2 (2018–2021?) was an attempt to replace OSCAR with a modern new workflow system.
- MARES (2022–2024?) was intended to be an educational platform that would deliver class material to help heralds lean the trade.
